When to go for lung cancer screening test?

 Lung cancer is a condition where abnormal cells grow out of the lungs. Such abnormal tissue growth can invade into nearby tissues or form new tumours. Lung cancer tests help to identify if there is any presence of such tumour exists. Lung cancer may start from any part of the lungs and can affect anywhere in the respiratory system. The cancer cells can even spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of the body. 


There are usually two types of lung cancer found, small cell lung cancers (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). Small cell lung cancers are the one which usually grows and spread more quickly. The non-small cell lung cancer spread & grow much slower then SCLC. Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in Indian men  and hence taking cancer screening blood test at home is very important.


The main symptoms of lung cancer include:


  • Chronic cough that doesn’t go even after 2 or 3 weeks

  • Recurring chest infections 

  • Bloody coughing

  • Chest pain while breathing or coughing

  • Persistent breathlessness or tiredness 

  • Loss of appetite 

  • Unusual weight loss

  • Changes in the appearance of your fingers, such as finger clubbing

  • Difficulty swallowing or dysphagia

  • A hoarse voice 

  • Swelling of your face or neck

  • Persistent chest or shoulder pain

  • Wheezing

People who are regular smokers must start going for cancer screening tests at the age of 45 years. It helps to diagnose lung cancer at an early stage. Lung cancer if detected at an early stage through a blood test at home helps to access successful treatment.
